Hair care for men is not much different from that for women. In fact, this division should not even exist, because there are essentially no differences in the structure of hair between the sexes.
The only thing that often, but not always, distinguishes men’s hair from women’s is its length. Also, women dye, blow-dry and iron their hair much more often, so they often need additional care. The structure of the hair itself is identical, so men have the same “troubles” with hair as ladies. The basic principles and rules of hair care do not differ.
Then why are there shampoos for men? Can they also use hair products that are not from the range of hair care for men?
– Not only they can, but it is often necessary. So-called shampoos for men are partly part of the marketing trick, but partly justifiably carry this epithet.
The manufacturers have tried to adapt these preparations to the needs of the male population. Unlike women, men usually do not like to spend a lot of time grooming. Every man loves quick and practical solutions. The creators of cosmetics were guided by this when creating products intended for them. That is why hair care for men means using products that have a slightly stronger and faster effect. Also, men are more likely to have a problem with hair loss, and almost all shampoos for men’s hair are mostly supplemented with active ingredients that strengthen the hair and promote hair growth.
This does not mean that men should not use classic hair shampoos, on the contrary. It is important that the shampoo they use successfully eliminates, or at least reduces, the problem that their hair has, and not to carry the label for men.
Men’s Hair Care Guide
It is a misconception that men’s hair only needs to be washed and dried. Haircare for men means much more than that.
Washing hair begins with adjusting the water temperature. It should not be too hot, but not too cold. The most important thing is to choose a shampoo that suits your needs, depending on your hair type and daily routine.
These are the most common factors that affect the correct choice of shampoo for men:
- How often do you wash your hair?
- What is your hair type (oily, dry, normal…)?
- Do you have problematic hair and scalp (dandruff, hair loss ()?
- Do you use hair styling products?
- How long is your hair?
- Do you paint it?
No matter how advanced the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industry is, it is unlikely that one product will be able to successfully meet all these needs. That is why it is important to recognize the characteristics of your hair and to choose care and cleaning products accordingly.
Avoid washing your hair with aggressive shampoos every time you take a shower because that can change the structure of the scalp. Also, it is very important that you use the appropriate amount of shampoo. A higher dose than necessary will only make rinsing more difficult, which can cause the appearance of oily hair, and permanently damage the natural condition of the hair and scalp.
A small amount of shampoo is quite enough. Massage a few drops on the entire hair and head, in light, circular motions. In this way, you will encourage better circulation and the growth of new hair. Rinse your hair thoroughly after shampooing.
The use of a conditioner is mandatory
It often seems that men’s hair differs drastically from women’s because it is sharper and coarser. In fact, it is because men usually pay less attention to their hair than women do. They often forget to use conditioners or do not use them at all. The application of this product is what makes the main difference that is manifested in the appearance of the hair. Conditioners make our hair soft and supple.
They are used after rinsing the shampoo. It is necessary to first rub a small amount of the product in the hand, and then apply it only on the tips of the hair. The balm straightens the hair cuticles and gives the hair volume, softness, and a shinier look. Unlike shampoo, this product is not washed off immediately, but after a few minutes (the exact time is indicated on the package). The conditioner, which is specially created for men, has a faster effect compared to classic products of this type. It usually works after a short time – in a minute or two.
These products should be used after each wash unless your hair is extremely short (so much so that you cannot avoid applying conditioners to the strands). It is important to let the conditioner work and to wash it thoroughly from the hair after a certain time.
Long hair
Men who have long hair should take extra care of it because dry, cracked, and lifeless hair is not attractive at all. In addition to looking messy, it also gives a bad complete impression of a man. (If he can’t pay attention to his hair, how can we expect anything from him?)
In addition to using the appropriate shampoo, for additional care, it is necessary to use a hair mask that will nourish and strengthen the hair. If you want to have beautiful, shiny, and healthy long hair, use this product once a week. Masks (packages) are applied after shampooing, on damp hair, and left to act for a few minutes. Never rub them on the threads, but only on the hair along its entire length. Rinse your hair thoroughly after the time required for the hair to absorb the proteins from the mask.
This is not the end of washing your hair – it’s time for conditioner. It acts as a protective layer, closes the hair cuticles, and thus retains all the nutrients inside the hair itself. At the same time, the conditioner makes it easier to comb and style the hairstyle. It is applied in small amounts on damp hair, not on the scalp, and rinses off after a few minutes. You should not skip this step if you want to have well-groomed hair. Otherwise, you will have to shorten it very quickly.
Oily hair
The causes of oily hair can be different; starting with genetic factors, all the way to diet. If you have oily hair, avoid touching your hair often with your hands, so as not to transfer the fat from your fingers to your hair.
Men who have oily hair usually wash it every day. This is not always the best solution, because many shampoos contain aggressive ingredients that can remove the protective layer of oil from the scalp with daily washing. In that way, the scalp becomes more sensitive and more prone to dandruff. A better solution is to wash your hair every second or third day with oily hair shampoos or to use mild shampoos that are intended for frequent use.
Goodbye dandruff
If you regularly notice white spots on dark clothes, it is high time to solve the problem of scalp dandruff. You need to choose the right shampoo and be persistent. The results do not come immediately, after one wash.
Our recommendation is to use an anti-dandruff shampoo regularly. Insight Clarifying shampoo effectively removes dandruff, and at the same time strengthens the hair and has a soothing effect on the irritated scalp. It is enriched with organic extracts of thyme and sage, as well as rosemary extract and phytocomplexes.
Use this shampoo for at least six months to successfully remove dandruff. Even when you solve the problem, it would not be bad to use it occasionally, for preventive reasons, at least once a week.
How to solve the problem of hair loss
Although hair loss is a common occurrence, men often, more than women, encounter excessive hair loss that can lead to baldness. All this greatly affects self-confidence. That is why it is important to take appropriate steps in time, especially if you have a genetic predisposition for hair loss.
In addition, there are products for hair growth and strengthening that do not rinse, such as ampoules against hair loss. This preparation contains the placenta, whose proteins stimulate the growth of new hair. The product is available in individual bottles or in a package of 12 ampoules, which is necessary for complete revitalization treatment and hair recovery. With proper care, hair loss no longer has to be your concern.
Drying your hair
It is extremely important to wash shampoos and conditioners well from your hair. The remnants of these products in the hair can additionally grease it, so rinse your hair with water for at least half a minute, rubbing it with your fingers.
After washing, dry your hair with a towel, without sudden and rough movements that could cause it to break. All you have to do is dab a towel to soak up the excess water.
If you blow-dry your hair, keep it at a distance of about 15 cm from the hair. To avoid damage caused by heat, use a heat protector hair spray. This product is applied to the whole hair, after drying it with a towel (before using the hairdryer).
If you have short hair and enough time, you can also let it dry naturally.
Hair care for men also includes styling
Hairstyling depends on the taste and personal style of each man. Also, the end result is greatly influenced by the quality of the hair itself and the way it is cut.
The most common product that men use to style their hair is gel. However, this is not the only preparation that will help your hair get an original look and a creative hairstyle. They are increasingly present on the market: pomades, creams, pastes, oils, waxes, clays, and similar products for styling and strengthening hair.
Whichever product you choose, make sure it has ingredients that nourish your hair and make it lush. It is important that after applying the styling agent, the hair gains volume, and not be glued. Therefore, it is advisable to use a smaller amount of these products.
If you use hair styling products, you should wash them out of your hair at the end of the day.
Hair care for men is not a complicated process, it just requires a little more attention and time. Be patient, choose products that suit your hair type, and eliminate the problem you have. Don’t forget that prevention is the best solution, so, whenever possible, prevent the appearance of side effects.
