For hair curling with a ribbon, it is possible to find numerous tutorials and tips on the Internet, as well as stories about how this is an innovative and revolutionary solution. Even though heat is not used for hair curling, the results achieved are truly astonishing. However, this is not such a new and revolutionary technique. Only thanks to social networks and raising awareness about the importance of protecting hair from heat, it has gained importance in the last few years. Also, more and more different models of hair curling ribbons are appearing on the market, among which sponges lined with satin dominate.

These are the main advantages of using a ribbon for hair curling:

  • It does not damage the hair, as the strands are curled in a completely natural way, without using hair styling devices that emit heat;
  • Hair curled in this way gains additional volume and fullness;
  • For the technique of hair styling itself, no great skills and knowledge are needed, good results are achieved with little effort;
  • Hair curling with a ribbon allows creating curls of various shapes.

Hair Curling with a Ribbon Step by Step

Hair curling with a ribbon is not a complicated technique and anyone can easily master it. It is necessary for the hair to be clean and damp (not dry, but not too wet either). Before the actual curling, it is desirable to apply a foam, cream, or spray for easier shaping, like the Revuele Curls Up! spray for defining curls.

First, thoroughly comb your entire hair and make a parting starting from the crown to the nape. Then place the ribbon on top of your head, so that its equal lengths “fall” towards the ears and fix it with a hairpin. First, curl one side (half) of the hair, by wrapping strand by strand of hair around the ribbon (video below). Then secure the end of the curled hair to the ribbon with a rubber band. Repeat the same procedure on the other half of the hair. Leave the hair curled like this for a few hours, then remove the ribbon. It would be best to sleep overnight with the ribbon on your hair.

When you remove it, you will be thrilled with the results. Depending on what kind of curls you like, it may be necessary to slightly “shake” them with your fingers or a wide-toothed comb. If you want your hairstyle to be as durable as possible, apply hair spray.

Satin Hair Curling Ribbon

When choosing a ribbon for hair curling, you need to pay attention to several details.

  1. Choose the fabric of the ribbon carefully. It is best to be made of satin or silk, as these fabrics do not damage the hair and do not create electricity. Also, they do not fray and will not leave fibers and hairs after removing the ribbon.
  2. The width, or thickness of the ribbon, is also important. Most of these products actually contain a flexible sponge, which is lined with the ribbon. The thickness of the sponge determines the final result, i.e., the width of the curls.
  3. Pay attention to the length of the ribbon as well. This detail is particularly important if you have long and thick hair. If the ribbon is too short, you will not be able to nicely curl all your hair.

On the Internet, you will find advice on how to curl your hair with a bathrobe belt. You can only use it if you have a silk or satin bathrobe. Classic bathrobes made of (rough) terry cloth are not a good option. They can further electrify or even damage the hair leaving fabric fibers tangled in the curls.

We advise you to always use products that are specially made for this purpose, such as the Infinity set for creating curls, which contains a ribbon (sponge lined with satin), two satin hair elastics, and a hairpin for easier ribbon fixing.
