Red Hair Doesn’t Have to Be Demanding to Maintain

Red hair colour is a trademark of many women. It is effective, attractive, striking, and very characteristic. There are many (urban) legends about red-haired women – about them, perhaps, some other time. In this text, we shall write about how to make red hair soft and shiny, while retaining an intense pigment.

Although many people like red hair colour, there are many who are not sure how it will suit them and how often they will have to dye their hair to maintain it properly. Due to the fear of the colour “washing out” too quickly, many women give up on being redheads. If you are also in this group, read our text to the end. Tips for maintaining red hair follow below.

Tips for Dyeing

The first thing you will hear in the story about red hair colour is that it quickly washes out and fades. It loses intensity just a few washes after dyeing. This can initially deter everyone who would like to have red hair. Although there is truth in the stories the red colour fades quickly, this is not entirely true.

To avoid the quick appearance of a faded red shade, first carefully choose the colour and type of hair dye.

Useful Recommendations

  1. If you want the intensity of the colour to be as persistent as possible, consider using one that might be even two shades darker than desired. Although the colour may seem a bit darker immediately after dyeing, you will soon have the shade you wanted. Dark pigments will wash out after the first two regular hair washes, and you will be delighted with the new shade.
  2. What is even more important for hair colouring – choose high-qualityprofessional hair dyes, which contain a lot of pigments. These dyes are usually only available in specialized shops. They are intended for professionals and use in hair salons. They are not available in variety shops. Professional hair dyes, from well-known world brands, can be found in our online and sales shops, including distribution centres. See some of our favourites at the end of this blog post.
  3. To enhance the intensity of the colour, use toners, correctors, or red pigments, which are added to the mixture of dye and hydrogen peroxide, to more easily achieve the desired tone and intensity. These products are the best allies for hairdressers to get non-standard and demanding shades.
  4. If finding and making the ideal red shade, which will not wash out too quickly from the hair, seems complicated to you, the best advice is to leave the dyeing to the hairdressers.
  5. If necessary, between two regular dyeing treatments, make a red tint for the hair, to further refresh the colour.

Red Hair Colour – Tips for Proper Care

No matter what colour you choose, know that every dyed hair needs special care. Red hair colour is not much more complicated or demanding to maintain than other shades. On the contrary, with the right choice of shampoo, conditioner, and other hair care products, you will have shiny and intense red colour until the next dyeing. So let’s start.

Red Hair Color Requires a Special Shampoo

As a rule, dyeing hair reduces the natural level of moisture in the hair, and dry hair retains colour and intense pigments less. For the hair to remain hydrated after dyeing (which is one of the prerequisites for preserving the intensity and shine of the colour), it needs additional care. For regular washing, choose shampoos that are intended for dyed hair, even better those that are created just for red hair.

Shampoos for dyed hair have a gentler formula, i.e., they do not contain sulfates: SLS and SLES. They often contain UV filters, which prevent the colour from bleaching under the influence of harmful sun rays. These products are enriched with nourishing and hydrating ingredients, which prevent the rapid washing out of pigments from the hair structure. They usually contain panthenol, which has the ability to “coat” the hair with a moisturizing layer and thus helps the colour to wash out slower from the hair. Also, most shampoos for dyed hair contain natural oils such as macadamia and argan, as well as fruit extracts.

Red hair colour especially loves extracts of pomegranate, peach, cherry, berry fruit, because they further enhance the intensity of its colour. When buying shampoo, be sure to pay attention to the composition, and also check out a few of our suggestions.

Colour Conditioner – the Best Choice for Red Hair Care

The use of a hair conditioner is mandatory after each hair shampooing, especially when it comes to caring for dyed hair. The main role of the conditioner is to close the hair cuticle, smooth the hair, provide extra shine, and facilitate combing. This is extremely important, as easy combing prevents pulling and breaking of the hair.

Proper care of red hair necessarily involves the use of a conditioner, and it is desirable for it to be a so-called colour conditioner. When it appeared, this product was considered revolutionary because it provides a double benefit: care and hair colouring. Our recommendation is the OSMO Colour Revive Conditioner, Radiant Red Shade, which is formulated to preserve and enhance the intensity of dyed hair, thanks to the red pigment. It is enriched with avocado and flaxseed oils, which hydrate and nourish the hair. It is used like any other conditioner, after rinsing the shampoo (and mask). It is applied to clean, damp hair, which is towel-dried. It is necessary to let the product work for at least 3 minutes. For a more intense colour, it is advised to leave it on the hair for about 10 minutes.

Red-haired women simply adore this conditioner. They claim that it completely refreshes the hair colour between two dyeing treatments, facilitates combing, and restores hair shine. Many professional hairdressers recommend this conditioner to their clients for colour maintenance, as it has a similar effect as a red hair tint.

Additional Tips

These are the basic tips with which the red hair colour will really remain red after dyeing. Of course, a lot depends on the natural hair dye, its quality, and current condition. Remember, hair that is healthy and hydrated retains an intense colour longer, whatever that colour may be.

So, if you want a beautiful red shade, devote yourself fully to care treatments before and after hair dyeing. The results will certainly not be lacking.
