Allantoin, a somewhat neglected cosmetic ingredient, is extremely valuable for skin care. It has soothing properties, reduces irritation and redness, hydrates, and softens the skin. It is extremely suitable for the care of dry and sensitive facial skin, as well as for daily hydration of the skin on the hands and feet.
It is most commonly obtained naturally as an extract from the medicinal plant comfrey, but it can also be extracted from chamomile, wheat germ, and beetroot. Additionally, it can be obtained chemically from urea and glycolic acid.
